These kinds of mileages and the demands they exact are only achieved with suitable fluids and resources. LIQUI MOLY GmbH subjected its top-quality products to endurance testing and has used the findings to develop a lucrative 'Oil Change Package' for commercial vehicles.
The average truck needs approx. 40 liters of motor oil and 40 liters of gear oil for every change of lubricant. This is something that sees many a transport company and fleet manager pulling out their red pen, because it is assumed that there is a huge potential for savings here. But for this to be true, the contribution that operating products make to the overall performance and value retention of the machines must also be considered. After all, although it might not be obvious at first glance, this is how quality products can underpin the cost efficiency of commercial vehicles to a significant degree.
As a manufacturer of quality motor oils, additives and problem-solving chemical products, Ulm-based LIQUI MOLY carried out a comparative study in the form of an endurance test.
A tractor-trailer rig covering a mileage of approx. 200,000 km per year and with a service interval of 100,000 km was equipped with top-quality lubricant and additives from the Ulm company and tested over long-distance transport operations. In comparison to an identical vehicle which used conventional motor oil and no additives, the test vehicle with LIQUI MOLY motor oil and LIQUI MOLY additives consumed 1.1 liters less fuel for every 100 kilometers. At a fuel price of € 0.90 per liter and over a mileage of 200,000 km, this allows annual savings of € 2,000 to be made. And when the cost of the appropriate low-friction motor oils and diesel additives from Liqui Moly which enabled this reduction in fuel consumption to be achieved in the first place are taken into account, this still leaves an actual saving of just under € 1,380. It's money in the hand that fleet operators can well afford to hang onto, in view of the ever tighter financial squeezes from tolls, increasing fuel prices and even tougher competition.
The reason for the fuel savings lies in the improved low-friction effect generated by the superb lubrication qualities of these top-quality motor and gear oils. This effect is further reinforced by the higher performance of a clean and therefore more efficient fuel system resulting from the use of cleansing and care additives. A further pay-off resulting from the use of additives is the extended service life of the vehicles. In choosing to use high-quality operating products, the fleet operator deliberately opts for 'internal value retention' for vehicles in the fleet.
