Franz Engstler (r.) and Kristian Poulsen are aiming at the title of the World Touring Car-Championship.

Engstler and Poulsen: This is the LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler line-up that will be battling it out for championship points in the 2009 season. The team presentation took place at Hotel Hubertushof in south Germany’s Oberstaufen in front of some 100 guests.
Franz Engstler and Danish driver Kristian Poulsen will be taking to the grid in BMW E 90 sis in the Independents’ class of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). This will be the second World Championship season for LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler, who are based in Wiggensbach near Kempten in Germany’s Allgäu region. Following last year’s debut, the team has a clear goal for 2009: to take the World Championship title in the Independents’ class. “Our first year in the WTCC was a challenge for everybody. A new car, new race tracks and, on top of that, the world’s best touring car drivers – I think I’ve said enough. But my crew fought their way through it all successfully. In every race, we gained new experiences and put them into practice with success,” says team boss and driver Franz Engstler. Proud team manager Kurt Treml adds: “In the season finale in Macau, Franz showed what he was made of – he drove an impressive race and brought home his first World Championship victory. And what was more: We took the title of World Championship runner-up back home with us to the Allgäu.” And it’s this title that will be the motivation and extra driving force for the new season, which will open in Brazil on 8 March.

True to tradition
The Allgäu-based team will be aiming to take the title in the ADAC Procar Series as well as the WTCC. The series is the German counterpart of the WTCC, which Engstler has won several times in the past. In 2009, LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler will also be driving two BMWs in the German racing series and hoping to take home the title in Division 1.
The first race of the new season will be held in Oschersleben over the Easter weekend.
